With more than 27 lakh cars being built in just a decade time, the W123 model from Mercedes-Benz would go in the annals of automotive history as one of the most popular people’s car.
Built as the successor to the earlier made W114 model, this model rolled out in several variants such as Saloon (W123), Limousine (V123), Estate (S123) and also sold in chassis form for ambulance, hearse, (F123).
This car was so simple to maintain that taxi drivers loved driving them and even after the entire life of the car was over, the models were refurbished in Europe and sold to poorer countries in Africa where local taxi-drivers would drive them for the next 10-20 years.
This scale model, Mercedes-Benz 230 CE was one of the variant that had the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system.
