Mercedes-Benz Strich 8 (in English dash 8) or the 200-8 was the successor to the Mercedes-Benz W123 series car. At one time sales of this model were so high that it even beat sales numbers of both Volkswagen’s Beetle and the Golf.
Sales peaked to over 2 million (20 lakh) units and it is rumoured that this model outsold all other models that Mercedes-Benz made since the war. Launched in the winter of 1976 this car was most favourite among the taxi drivers. Some can see these even today in countries as distant as Mauritania, Senegal where they are used to transport people and goods across different towns.
With a 2 litre petrol engine, this model produced 94 bhp and go up to 160 km/hr.
