Created by legendary designer Gordon Murray, the McLaren F1 GTR is the racing version of their first produced sports car. This car is powered by a naturally aspirated* BMW S70/2 V12 engine.
At the 63rd edition of the Le Mans held at the Circuit de la Sarthe, France on 17-18 June, 1995, the #59 McLaren F1 GTR car sponsored by the Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing Team with drivers Finnish Jyrki Juhani Järvilehto, French Yannick Dalmas and Japanese Masanori Sekiya came in 1st position after 298 laps.
* a naturally aspirated engine, sometimes known as a normally aspirated engine, is an internal combustion engine in which oxygen intake depends solely on atmospheric pressure and does not rely on forced induction through a turbocharger or a supercharger.
