
Developed and designed by Nigel Stroud in 1990 to primarily race in under the Group C category in both IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) and the FISA races (Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile) the Mazda 787B has evolved out of the Mazda made 787 and used the famous Mazda made Wankel rotary R26B engine.
At the 59th edition of the Le Mans held at the Circuit de la Sarthe, France on 22-23 June, 1981, the car sponsored by the Mazdaspeed Team with drivers German Volker Weidler and his compatriots British Johnny Herbert and Belgian Bertrand Gachot came in 1st position after completing 362 laps.
