It was in 1920 when Karl Maybach started making automobiles that a firm by the name "Carosseriebau Hermann Spohn" also came in to being. Soon they both started collaborating to make some of the finest Maybach’s. Spohn meanwhile continued to become bespoke coachbuilders for a host of brands including Horch, Hispano-Suiza, etc.
It was in 1932 that Spohn was commissioned by Maybach to make what turned out to be the most unique car.
Using the powerful 8.0 litre V12 Maybach DS8 engine, Spohn who made just one model produced an aerodynamic car* that could run up to a top speed of 170 km/hr. Launched during the Berlin Auto Show, this car called the Maybach Zeppelin DS8 Streamliner created a lot of buzz.
