In 1958, Maserati was commissioned by Italian ice-cream manufacturer Eldorado to create a car suitable for the 2nd edition of the Race of Two Worlds (this race was an attempt to bring together American & European racing cultures).
Even though the Italian manufacturer had officially withdrawn from competition at the end of the previous season to focus on road car production, this offer was too good to decline. So Maserati went on to create a special car. This car with 450 HP did about 280 km/hr.
