The idea of introducing this model by Maserati was to supply the growing touring cars market segment in USA.
After the brand tasted success at the 1957 Sebring 12hrs. race (in Florida) through Juan Manuel Fangio & Jean Behra on their Maserati 450S and Stirling Moss & Harry Schell with their Maserati 300S (taking the first two positions), Maserati decided to name her new two door 2+2 coupé as Sebring. They rolled out their first Giovanni Michelotti designed model, in 1962.
In 1965, the Maserati Sebring II evolved with modified headlamps, tail lamps, bumpers and turning signal lights. Under the bonnet, the customer was given the option of three different types of engines i.e. 3.5 litre, 3.7 litre and 4.0 litre.
Only 245 cars were produced, until production ended in 1969.
