The Lotus was first built on chassis 72 and was designed by the legendary Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe for the 1970 F1 season. There were a number of new features incorporated in the designing of this car such as side mounted radiators, inboard brakes etc.
This Lotus Ford Team car was fitted on a 72D chassis and a Ford Cosworth DFV engine. The car driven by Brazilian Emerson Fittipaldi won the World Championship award in the year 1972 after five victories at Spain, Belgium, Great britain, Austria and Italy by gathering 61 points.
