The Leyland Titan model was already a popular double-decker model during the years 1945-1969. And they also got produced in India by Ashok Leyland Motors, Madras (now Chennai). Municipal corporations across India, used this Ashok Leyland model in the 70s and 80s.

With a front mounted engine and forward control chassis and with new regulations being set by the Metropolitan Police in 1950, new types were also introduced in the market. The PD2/12 was one with a longer wheelbase of 16.5 feet and having a total height of 27 feet. With vacuum brakes this model was a runaway hit right from day one.
