Conceived by Maurice Wilks (Chief Designer) after the end of World War II, the Land Rover from the Rover Co. was developed as a light utility vehicle to help farmers and people living in distant rural areas. Wilks rationale was to have a vehicle that can be serviced with minimum tooling requirements. The idea to develop this vehicle was to cover the cost of losses incurred during the war due to loss of production.
Launched during the 1948 Amsterdam Auto Show, the Land Rover went on to create her own identity through Series I which was the first generation vehicle helping the company to form a completely new product range.
This Set of five vehicles belonging to Series I having 80", 88" and 109" wheelbase size sits on a plinth and consists of the following,
1. 80" Canvas Back
2. 88" Hard Back - Royal Mail
3. 88" Canvas Back
4. 88" British Rail Fire Tender
5. 109" with Frame
