Lamborghini Cheetah Scale - 1:18

The development of the Lamborghini Cheetah took place as a result of a contract that was placed by a US based firm called Mobility Technology International (MTI) who were awarded a project to develop a High Mobility Combat Vehicle (HMCV) for the US army. The idea was to have a vehicle that can play multple roles such as a command centre, ambulance, reconnaissance vehicle or as a gun-carrier. A number of firms made an attempt to win this contract. Eventually the military gave the contract to AM General’s HMMWV (Humvee).

The basis of the Cheetah was a vehicle called XR311 that was developed by another firm called FMC (now a major chemical firm located globally) and whose designs were stolen by MTI. This (later) resulted in lawsuits that were filed against Lamborghini, after the Cheetah was launched at an auto show.

Under the bonnet was Chrysler’s large V8 5.9 litre engine. The vehicle could seat 5 persons (including the driver) as well as carry heavy loads. The overall weight of the vehicle was 2 tons, but because Lamborghini decided to make full use of fibreglass, the gross weight did not tip more.

A unique collectible for lovers of Lamborghini.
