This SUV from the automobile firm AvtoVAZ is perhaps the most famous export brand that came out of the communist Soviet Union. The 2121 or the Lada Niva 4x4 was exported to nearly 100 countries from Europe to distant Cuba. For a very long period this SUV was also the most popular 4WD in Austria as well as distant New Zealand.
In almost all the terrains of the world, this SUV that first rolled out from the GAZ factory in 1977, passed every possible road test with flying colours.
In 1985, a new 3-door variant to be marketed in France was introduced as the St. Tropez. With a 1.6 litre engine under the bonnet, the St. Tropez had very distinct looks unlike other Niva’s.
With unique dual colour scheme, i.e., white and apple green, this SUV also had an apple green tubular front grille guard and had the words "St. Tropez" written all over. Even the side mirrors and the ventilation grille were provided in apple green colours.
