RLS or Rheinmetall Land Systems developed this armoured vehicle called LIV (an abbreviation in German for a reconnaissance and combat vehicle). It is known by several names such as Serval, AGF (Aufklärungs- und Gefechtsfahrzeug), etc.
It was developed specially for the German army and few other NATO forces. Designed to be a lightweight operational carrier, the chassis used is from Mercedes-Benz made G 270 CDI model. It was first displayed during the IDEX (defence exhibition) 2003 at Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The armoured body has been made by well-known coachbuilder BINZ and designed in such a way that it can even protect its occupants from splinters in case of any blast. With a crew of four, this vehicle can also be used as a troop carrier in case of an emergency. It weighs nearly 5 tons.
