Produced by Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, this car was the brainchild of its founder Henry J. Kaiser who wanted to build a car using a few components and using bare minimum resources.
So trunk lids were done away with, saving metal stamping costs, 2 doors instead of 4 doors, rear windows that were fixed, glove box and armrests done away with, etc. Under the bonnet was a 2.2 litre engine.
This car model was very popular among the drag racing enthusiasts who modified this model by fitting more powerful engines. This Gasser^ model was called “Phantom”.
^ nickname for cars that were used in drag-racing
