Lynx Engineering was a firm that was closely associated with Jaguar converting their models into styles that suited their rich clients. This was at a time when Jaguar didn’t make any estate / stationwagon models.
So one customer who had just purchased a Jaguar made XJ-S (also called XJS) walked in to the company and ask them to convert his XJS into a bespoke estate car. What Lynx did with the model was so unique that it got labelled as the 'The World's Ultimate Estate Car'.
Lynx converted the original model by adding 46 cubic feet of extra cargo space with nearly a 6 foot long extension at the rear. Their new design also offered more space for occupants at the rear with a longer leg room.
With the Jaguar made 5.3 litre V-12 engine that gave almost 300 hp, this car with a 3-speed automatic transmission offered the best. The model was called Jaguar XJ-S Lynx Eventer and about 70 of them were produced for the next 15 years.
