The Jaguar 2.4 litre (L) Mark 1 (Mk1) car first rolled out in 1955 and was an immediate success. This car helped people to purchase a luxury car at an ‘affordable’ price. Lesser priced than other Jaguar models, this car was Jaguar’s first unitized body car i.e. the floor plan and the chassis formed a simple structure which was more rigid, yet lighter.
Produced during the years 1955-1959, the Mk1 were made to give the occupants a smoother and a silent car. This was possible by having additional rubber mountings wherever possible and fitting Girling made shock absorbers.
