Built originally at a plant owned by Auto Union (Audi), it's production got shifted after the end of World War II, when the Soviets occupied Berlin. The production of this model IFA F9 resumed later at the old BMW factory in Eisenach (BMW management by this time had moved to Western Germany) under the auspices of the newly formed firm called Sowjetische AG Maschinenbau Awtowelo (the factory was subsequently renamed as AWE).
This car with a 2-stroke water-cooled 900 cc engine gave 28 HP. This IFA F9 with a 2-door was surprisingly named Limousine.
What was unique about this car was the placement of its radiator – it was placed behind the engine and not in the front.
