The H3 (H for Horch and 3 for the payload capacity i.e. 3 tons) was manufactured just after WWII until 1949. The truck parts were borrowed heavily from the Sd.Kfz. 11 which was a German military vehicle that was half-track*. About 900 of them were made.
* A half-track is a civilian or military vehicle with regular wheels at the front for steering and continuous tracks at the back to propel the vehicle and carry most of the load.
