Hino Renault PA62 - Tokyo Taxi Scale - 1:43

Inspired by the success of Volkswagen Beetle, Renault made an attempt to create one for the people of France and they succeeded. The Renault 4CV turned out to be one of the most popular car models and sold over a million between the years 1946-1961.

Conceived by French automotive engineers secretly (since the directive from the Fuehrer’s office was to make vehicles strictly for commercial and military purposes) while France was under German occupation, the design team led by Charles-Edmond Serre, Fernand Picard and Jean-Auguste Riolfo knew that at some day after the occupation was over the French people would need a small economy car.

The first prototype was completed in 1942 and two more prototypes were built before being launched at the 1946 Paris Motor Show.

Hino (now a Toyota subsidiary) produced this Renault 4CV model in Japan during the years 1953-1961 and named it Hino PA62. This new model became popular among taxi-drivers.
