South African born British designer Ian Gordon Murray is well-known for designing some of the world’s most famous F1 cars, including the McLaren F1.
Because he knew that race cars can be faster and more lighter than the conventional F1 cars, he along with a racing driver set up their firm called LCC (Light Craft company). Their first creation is called the Rocket.
With a 1000 cc Yamaha motorcycle engine at the rear, this 370 kg car had a power-to-weight ratio of a Ferrari F40. With pop-up lamps and a 6-speed gearbox, just 50 cars were produced.
