The Goggomobile T250 were made in Germany between 1955-1969 and was a small car that could seat 4 people with no luggage. It had an air-cooled, 2 stroke, 2 cylinder, 300 cc engine. Later a 400 cc engine was added to give more power.
Not many would know this, but this model of the Goggomobil was supposed to be India's ‘people car’ instead of the Maruti 800 that came decades later had the proposal been passed by the Government in the late 50's.
This car was even shown to Jawaharlal Nehru and a demo also arranged. Even offices were set up in different cities by a firm called Associated Corporation of Industries (ACI) who were planning to make and sell them. Unfortunately all this never happened and Maruti after 30 years bagged the label of being the 'people car'.
