The General Motors Co. (GMC) made ‘B’ series models were primarily aimed at the growing school bus market. Primarily evolving out of the C (2WD) / K (4WD) pick-up series trucks, these were supplied primarily to bus body builders with only the chassis.
GM actually had an exclusive contract with a bus building firm called Blue Bird Corporation. First created in 1966, their yellow coloured buses became so popular that a school bus was simply identified as a GMC-Blue Bird made model.
These second generation bus with 7 litre engines were made during the years 1984-1991 and the Los Angeles Police Dept. (LAPD) purchased few of them.
