Topolino, in Italian, literally means "little mouse" or "Mickey Mouse". Produced since 1936, the FIAT 500 was a very popular model and for nearly two decades 5 lakh (500,000) units were built in variants "A", "B" and "C".
The Topolino was designed by the legendary engineer, Dante Giacosa, who later went on to design several iconic models for FIAT, including the 850. The idea was to give customers a model that was good enough for 2 people and 4 small bags of luggage and a small engine that could drive to a maximum speed of 75 km/hr.
The Topolino was also sold in India by FIAT's representative, Bombay Cycle & Motor Agency Ltd.
