Not many know this but the 1968 FIAT 124 was launched from the air. FIAT hired an aeroplane and dropped a car with the help of a parachute. It had a 1.2 litre engine, had disc brakes and a spacious interior.
So popular it became that it won the European Car of the Year award in 1966. The FIAT 124 was made in the then Soviet Union as the Lada Zhiguli.
In India, Premier Automobies (PAL) made the car here and renamed it as Premier 118NE.
