The Citroën 55 truck appeared in 1953, succeeding type 45. Its production lasted until 1965 when it was replaced by the model called Belphégor, a model designed by the Italian design house Bertone.
With a payload capacity of 5 ton and availability in both petrol and diesel versions, these were available in both 2x2 and 4x4 formats. Over 50,000 of these were produced.
