Launched in 2014 to universal acclaim, Citroen’s C4 Cactus will always be remembered for one thing – the creation of ‘air-bumps’ on sides of the doors.
This was unique as none of the car makers earlier envisaged, though it is a problem with all vehicles that remain parked i.e. scratches on the sides due to brushing of cars or any other rough object being run over by kids, etc..
Citroen addressed this problem by creating panels made from thermoplastic polyurethane and having it filled with small air pockets (similar to the packaging bubble wrap material). This simple innovation allowed the car to fend off scratches and minor bumps.
Another innovation that Citroen brought is through their patented Progressive Hydraulic Cushions Suspension system in which an effort is made to slow down the suspension’s reactions to compressions so that the passenger has a more smoother ride. Also, its passenger seats offer lumbar supports.
