Citroen wanted their 2CV model to do well in the UK. But since the popular conception was that of a ‘people’s car’, Citroen decided to change its looks.
They rope in Peter Kirwan-Taylor, the man who designed the Lotus Elite, who gives it a fibreglass body and makes it run little faster than the 2CV with a 425cc engine.
But because her pricing was higher (compared to the Austin Mini), the Citroen Bijou could not survive and only 200 were produced in the UK.
