The 2 CV or 2 Cheveaux (pronounced DU-shu-VOH) meaning 2 steam powered horses were made from 1948 until 1990, making it the second largest made car in the world.
Over 88 lakhs of 2CV and its variants such as the Ami, Dyane, Acadiane, etc. were made in countries (France, Belgium, UK, Chile, Uruguay, Spain, Argentina). This car has been featured in over 35 movies and over 15 stamps been released.
As the eighties was approaching nearer and people’s taste had already changed to modern cars, Citroen wanted to retain some of her 2CV magic therefore prompting them to first come out with a smaller 435cc engine with the name Spécial in 1975. This was followed by another model called the Dolly and the Club. However what caught the public’s attention was this combination of the burgundy red and black colour through this model called Citroen 2CV Charleston.
Though it retain the original 2 CV's 600 cc engine, power was increased to 29 hp by change of carburettor which could take the car in excess of 100 km/hr. Seats provided were modern day bucket seats instead of the single bench seat. This model became so popular that over 8000 were produced.
