The name for this Brazilian Chevrolet model evolved from two GM (General Motors) brands, Opel and Impala. Having evolved from the German Opel-made Rekord Series-C, the Chevrolet Opala was a mid-sized sedan car and was produced for nearly twenty-five years.
Several engine variants were available, but the Polícia das Estradas (Highway Patrol Police) used the model with a 2.5-litre engine.
