To compete against the Volkswagen bus models such as the Samba and the Transporter, Chevrolet introduced a range of vans, pick-ups under the label Corvair “Greenbrier” in 1961. These vans were not only fitted with rear Chevrolet Turbo-Air 6 engines (similar to VW van models with rear engines) but were given more power. And as the engines were air-cooled, they were easy to maintain and repair.
Produced until 1965, the later vans came with more powerful 2.7-litre engines and also automatic transmission (optional). Many coachbuilders preferred to use these models as motor-homes (campers) equipped with bed, fold-out tables, roof tent, icebox, etc.
This scale model is a rendition oth their Minibus variant which like the VW models had 3-rows of seats for 9 passengers.
