Checker Marathon 327 Scale - 1:43

A Russian born immigrant, Morris Markin made his way to the USA as an immigrant and started his struggle first as a helping hand to his uncle, followed by opening a small tailor shop before venturing in to the Taxi business. He soon took over a small cab firm. Three year later he buys a small coachbuilding firm to get all his taxis built. Soon he felt the need to produce themselves and scouts for the right place for his factory. He then commissions a well known architect called Albert Kahn to build his plant. Kahn who was already known in the Detroit circle helps him to build the factory. This was the beginning of the Checker Motors Corporation.

Based in a place called Kalamazoo, Checker Motors Co. Marathon became so popular that they got produced from 1961 until 1982 with a continuous production run wherein several features were added with changing times.

Though a taxi version with basic features catered to the large passenger vehicle category (the brand became more famous after the car got featured in the movie Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro), Checkers also had the civilian version for the general public.

Available in both 4-door sedan and station wagon formats, the Checker Marathon remained vastly unchanged from the outside for 21 long years.
