One of the lower priced models from the Buick family, the Special however got a brand new body in 1949. For the next 1951 model the body remained the same, it got a powerful straight-eight 4.3 litre engine (also called the Fireball engine).

This specific model was called the Buick Special Tourer *.

* - tourer or an all-weather tourer is a term used for any cars with no fixed roof. Today such cars are known as convertibles.
