It was in 1955 that Berliet offered the municipality of Paris the option to test three of their bus variants-the smaller and less-powered PLB series, the medium and 5-or 6-cylinder engine PLR series; and the heavy-duty PLR 10.
The PLR 8MU was one model that was accepted by the bus authorities as they had the option to select any of the 5-cylinder (with a MDUH engine with 125 hp) or the 6-cylinder (with a MDZH engine with 150 hp).
These buses served one of the routes in Paris before they were withdrawn from public service in 1977.
