When the first three prototypes of the famous Berliet PLR bus series were created, the management wanted to test it. And so they thought to use them as advertising vehicles at the famous Tour de France bicycle race. These prototype models with a 9.5 litre Berliet engine were given the name PLK8.
Two of these buses were painted in blue with the words ‘Huiles Berliet’, a premium brand of greases, lubricants, air-filters, etc. from the house of Berliet. In the 1953 event these modified buses acted as mobile service stations for the participants and event organisers.
