A development over the BTR-60, the BTR-70 is an 8-wheeled armoured personnel carrier (APC) having two 120 hp 8-cylinder ZMZ-4905 engines. With a longer hull compared to her predecessor, this APC had very good amphibious (9 km/hr) and off-road capabilities and was protected by a 9-mm thick protection at the front and the back as well as a 7-mm protection on her sides.
Produced since 1972, this APC is still being made and has been sold to nearly 40 countries. India had several of them in the past.
