
After the World Wars, Europeans were seeking low-cost transport cars. BMW borrowed the designs from the Italian firm ISO, redesigned the engine with a single cylinder, 4-stroke, 247cc hp engine and launched their first microcar called Isetta in 1955.
Because of its large transparent dome-like door, these microcars were known as bubble cars.
BMW’s advertise campaign had this catchy slogan -
Freude haben - Kosten sparen - BMW Isetta fahren (in English it meant, Have fun - Save costs - Drive a BMW Isetta).
