After the World Wars, Europeans were seeking low-cost transport cars. BMW borrowed the designs from the Italian firm ISO, redesigned the engine with a single cylinder, 4-stroke, 247cc hp engine and launched their first microcar called Isetta in 1955.
Because of its large transparent dome-like door, these microcars were known as bubble cars.
BMW’s advertise campaign had this catchy slogan -
Freude haben - Kosten sparen - BMW Isetta fahren (in English it meant : Have fun - Save costs - Drive BMW Isetta).
This tear-drop camper attached to the Isetta was used by thousands of owners in the 1960s. This scale model has been created by Schuco to celebrate 60 years of this relationship.
