The E12 range of cars produced during the 1972-1981 years was considered as the New Class range. More popular as the BMW 5-series, the BMW 518 was designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq (who also designed the Peugeot 505, BMW 1600 Ti, Simca 1100).
With a BMW made M10 1.8 litre engine under the bonnet, the BMW 518 rolled out first in 1974. With 4-speed manual transmission, this car could easily do about 160 km/hr.
