The BMW 02 Series is a range of compact executive cars produced by BMW between 1966 and 1977, based on the shortened version of new class sedans. The 02 Series caught enthusiasts' attention and established BMW as an formidable international brand.
The 1600-2 was the first 02 Series car and was an entry level BMW that cost less. But it was the higher end model BMW 2002 that became famous. This model was also used in international races including this one that was driven by the famous Hans-Joachim Stuck in 1971 at the 500 km ADAC Eifelpokel Rennen race.
Hans-Peter Koepchen, a former racer himself was a specialist BMW tuner who would modify various BMW models for racing. He had his own team in the late 60’s and the 70’s called the Koepchen Racing Team with several celebrated drivers such as Hans Heyer (of Mercedes-Benz AMG Red Pig fame) and Hans-Joachim Stuck.
