BMP or Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty 2D (D or dorabotanya*) is the second generation amphibious infantry vehicle that first made appearance during the early 1980s. Modified with different types of new generation steel that protects as armour, this vehicle also has a provision for mine clearing.
The first battle it saw was during the Soviet’s involvement with Afghanistan on the advice of the then communist President Najibullah in the early 1980s.
They continued to be produced until this day and have also been purchased by the Indian Army.
