Based on the Austin made A90 Atlantic *, this car was made by Donald Healey through his Healey Car. Co. in small numbers. Produced for three years 1953-1956, this car under the hood carried a 2.7 litre engine.
How this car, came up is an interesting story. Healey modified this car to present it at the 1952 auto show in London. Leonard Lord who was the Managing Director of the Austin Co. was highly impressed by her final looks. So Lord stuck a deal with Healey and the birth of Austin Healey 100 took place. The figure 100, was given as the car used to touch speeds of 100 mph, easily.
The racing version with a more powerful engine and having an aluminium body was given the name Austin Healey 100S (the ‘S’ stood for the racing track, Sebring in USA). Only 50 such race cars were produced for nine months in the year 1955.
