Quattro means four (in Italian) and so Audi named this car as Audi Quattro as this model had a 4-wheel drive system.
Designed by automotive engineer Jörg Bensinger who pioneered the 4-wheel drive system way back in the late 1970s, this model was also popularly known as “Ur-Quattro”. The word ‘Ur’ in German means ‘the original’ when applied with the word ‘quattro’.
With a 2.1 litre engine, this model shared many parts from the earlier made Audi 80 model.
