Billed as one of the most expensive cars Aston Martin ever produced this car, the DBR 1 was a baby that Ted Cutting nurtured since it's inception. He designed the body, engine, chassis as well as the suspension. This car was specifically built for the World Sportscar Championship, a race that first began in 1953.
With a 2.9 litre engine that gave a power output of 250 hp, this car driven by British Roy Francesco Salvodori and legendary American Carroll Shelby went on to win the 24 hour Le Mans in 1959.
While Carroll Shelby went on to create a new car racing brand - Shelby, this Aston Martin DBR 1 when sold at an auction had become so valuable that it went under the hammer for an astounding US$ 22.5 million (Rs. 16 crores).
