Considered to be a car in the most purest design form, the Series 1 of the Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 was launched during the Geneva Auto Show in March 1966.
To generate hype for this new model, a name contest was held and the grand prize being the car itself. There were nearly 1.5 lakh (150,000) entrants who participated in the contest. The winner was a person from Brescia from the northern Italian region of Lombardy. Guidobaldo Trionfi won the prize as hsi suggested name ‘Duetto’ (Duet in English) appealed to the contest judges.
Alfa Romeo, however could not name the car Duetto due to trademark issues, but this car remained an all-time classic from the stable of Alfa Romeo.
In gargantuan 1:8 size scale, this metal model is an exact rendition of the original car.
