It was in 1929 that Wally Byam launched his firm Airstream’s first trailer. In just over two decades his company grew leaps and bounds. Americans who by this time wanted everything large and huge, saw the perfect choice in this 16 feet single-axle trailer called the BAMBI. It was not just light and easily maneuverable but could take lots of supplies for a long stay.
The name Bambi was borrowed by Wally Byam from a dialect of Bantu (spoken in Angola, Africa) where 'mbambi' means a deer that is agile and quick. that name remained and Bambi motorhomes are still made today even after passage of 50 years.
